Denny Middle School Music Dept. Presents
Midwinter Break Music Camp

February 19th—22nd

Denny Middle School is excited to be sponsoring a FREE midwinter break music camp for students in grades
5-8. The music camp will offer programs for concert band, orchestra, choir, jazz, steel drums, and marching
percussion (drumline). Students will receive group instruction from certified music teachers, and participate
in sectionals and small ensembles led by exceptional high school and college musicians. This will be a great
opportunity for students to develop friendships with kids from different schools and an excellent way to
have fun and playing music during the midwinter break from school.

Each student will be assigned to one primary (Band, Orchestra, or Choir) and one secondary
(Jazz Band, Steel Drums, Drumline, or Choir) music ensemble.

The days activities will consist of two hours of rehearsal in their primary ensemble and one hour of rehearsal
in their secondary ensemble. Additional time will be provided for sectional rehearsals,
guided by experienced high school and college musicians, as well as for games and other activities.

The mood of the clinic will be educational but fun and laid back. Our aim is to have a good time making
music together and to help elementary students to feel safe and comfortable in a middle school setting.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The coordinator of the clinic is Marcus Pimpleton, music director at Denny Middle School. Mr. Pimpleton
has been the director of music at Denny Middle School for the past six years where he has
taught band, orchestra, choir, and steel drum classes. During the summer months Mr. Pimpleton
also serves as director of the Seattle Public Schools All-City High School Marching Band and the Federal
Way Public Schools Junior All-City Bands.

The orchestra portion of our program will be led by Mr. Chris Boscole, director of music at Franklin
High School. The choral portion will be led by Katherine Arpo, music director at Aki Kurose.
In addition a team of high school and college musicians will be on hand to provide small group and
one on one assistance to students.
