What is the Denny Wellness Center?

The Denny Wellness Center is a health clinic located in the school.It is a place where students can go for physical and mental health services and to learn how to lead healthy lives.Our staff members have master’s level training and a special interest in and love for adolescents.

The Wellness Center is staffed with a Nurse Practitioner, two Mental Health Counselors and a Medical Receptionist, all employees of Puget Sound Neighborhood Health Centers (PSNHC). PSNHC has provided medical and dental care to the Seattle Community for more than 30 years and health services in Seattle schools since 1992.We have a strong commitment to serving adolescents, believing that each young person has unique strengths that need to be recognized and promoted.

Who can use the Wellness Center?

Any student enrolled at Denny Middle School can be seen at the health center by having a parent or guardian complete and sign a registration form. Registration forms can be obtained at the Wellness Center or from the school nurse or school counselor.

The Wellness Center provides treatment for medical concerns such as:

• flu, colds, and sore throats
• stomach pains
• acne
• infections
• menstrual problems
• warts
• sports physical exams
• confidential services, including sexuality and reproductive health
• injuries
• immunizations
• asthma
• allergies
• headaches
• dental screening and referral
• Counseling is available for concerns such as:
• self-esteem
• depression
• stress
• relationships with friend, teachers and family members
• family concerns, such as communication
• issues connected with sexuality
• tobacco use
• drug and alcohol abuse
• sexual and physical abuse
• thoughts of suicide
• Information to help you lead a healthy life

There are many ways to improve your health. Any of the staff are available for consultation. We also have written information on a variety of topics including:

• weight management
• disease prevention
• smoking cessation
• healthy nutrition
• sexuality and reproductive health
• normal adolescent development

Fees and Insurance

Puget Sound Neighborhood Health Centers and Denny Wellness Center believe that quality health care should be available to everyone, regardless of their ability to pay. We accept medical coupons and insurance and can also help eligible families sign up for insurance plans. There are no out-of-pocket fees for services from the Wellness Center.
