MARCHING BAND—
Denny Middle School is proud to be the only middle school in our district with a year round marching band. Through marching band, students develop school pride and spirit through performances at pep events, parades, and community celebrations. In the fall and winter months,
marching band techniques and music are gradually introduced into the curriculum of all three concert bands. In the spring, once the parade season kicks into full swing the three bands come together for afterschool rehearsals before combining as the Denny Dolphin Marching Band for performances. The band
receives numerous invitations and appearance requests each year and was recently honored
with the privilege of performing down Main Street Disneyland, a rare honor for middle schools.

JAZZ BAND—
The Award Winning Denny Middle School Jazz Ensemble meets three days
per week after school. Students in this class develop musicianship with an intense focus on developing
a uniform section sound, playing in a swing style, understanding musical form, and improvising solos.
The jazz band travels annually to a national jazz festival, most recently to the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival in Moscow Idaho and this spring to the Reno International Jazz Festival in Reno Nevada.
The jazz band is open to Denny musicians regardless of ability with one year of experience on a traditional jazz instrument (saxophone, trumpet, trombone, bass, piano, or drum kit).

MARIACHI—
Denny is very proud to be one of only a handful of schools statewide to offer a
mariachi program. Funded in part by a grant from Friends of Seattle Mariachi, Denny offers
mariachi twice a week as a part of its afterschool program. Denny mariachi participants work
closely with a professional mariachi educator who takes them from the very basics of playing
the instruments and singing. The mariachi ensemble performs at school and community events,
as well as world music and mariachi festivals. While this class is a celebration of Mexican culture,
students of all backgrounds are welcomed and encouraged to participate.
