Biography:
I was born in Tepic Nayarit, Mexico. My family immigrated to the United States when I was five years old. I grew up in Seattle and attended my entire schooling in the Seattle Public Schools District. In 2005, I received a Bachelor of Arts in American Ethnic Studies with a concentration in Chicano Studies from the University of Washington. In 2006, I began working at El Centro de la Raza as the Executive Director’s administrative assistant. Soon after, I was offered an opportunity to work in the Seattle Public Schools District as a Seattle Team for Youth Case Manager. Working with Latino youth, I became aware of the serious lack of minority teachers. Confident I would make a greater difference as a teacher; I enrolled in City University’s Master in Teaching Program and graduated in 2008. Now, I am here at Denny as a first year teacher in the Proyecto Saber program.
