PE Curriculum All Physical Education departments in the Seattle Public Schools will be incorporating a new curriculum. The 5 for Life curriculum is a new and exciting way to teach students about their health and fitness. We will be incorporating this new curriculum into our everyday activities, as well as including some additional information students haven’t seen before. We, here at the Physical Education Department, are VERY excited about this new year!!! Weekly Schedule Monday and Friday we will be implementing the new curriculum through activities based on learning about health and fitness. This will include preparation for the fitness tests. The fitness tests include Sit & Reach, Sit-Ups, Push-Ups, Mile Run, Shuttle Run, and Height and Weight measurements. We will perform these tests at the beginning of the semester and at the end of the semester. This way we can map the progress each student is making. ALL INFORMATION IS CONFIDENTIAL. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday we will be participating in team and individual activities directed at increasing the students’ coordination and motor skills. We truly enjoy giving students the opportunity to learn new activities as well as continue their growth in activities they are already familiar with. The successful student will progress from this program to the next level of physical fitness education with the understanding of the skills, concepts and attitudes necessary to achieve a competent level of sports expertise. Each student will be able to formulate critical thinking skills in a direct relationship with physical development and apply skills to his/her general education curriculum. Traditional Activities: Global Activities: -Basketball - Soccer -Floor Hockey - LaCrosse -Volleyball - Aussie Rules Football -Ultimate Frisbee - Badminton -Softball - Gola - Golf - Table Tennis - Tennis - Juggling and Unicycles - Weight Lifting - Martial Arts (Wushu) - Flag Football -Takraw (Buka Ball) **ANY EXCUSE FOR NOT PARTICIPATING IN PE REQUIRES A NOTE GIVEN TO THE TEACHER BEFORE CLASS STARTS.
