The Denny Middle School Physical Education team focuses on success-oriented physical education for all students.  Students should be able to experience a positive program in which activities are organized in ways that are non-threatening, sex equitable, and encourages students to be active and moving.  The purpose of this program is to insure that all students interact positively with others by experiencing success from physical activities and learning to enjoy the benefits of health and fitness.

In addition to the standard units, students will participate in various other activities to further their physical fitness.  These activities include:
 
A run/walk every Friday.
Fitness testing.
Individual sports; Badminton, Pickle ball, Table Tennis, Golf, Weight lifting, Martial Arts, Tennis, Roller skating, Gola, Buka Ball, Modified Rugby.
Physical conditioning and body management; Stretching, fitness testing, rope skipping.
·        Circus arts; Juggling and Unicycles.
The successful student will progress from this program to the next level of physical fitness education with the understanding of the skills, concepts and attitudes necessary to achieve a competent level of sports expertise.  Each student will be able to formulate critical thinking skills in a direct relationship with physical development and apply skills to his/her general education curriculum.
 

P.E. UNIFORM REQUIREMENTS


Each student is required to change into PE clothing for class.  Uniforms consist of:
All White T-Shirt. First name and Last Initial will be Printed clearly on the Front of the White T-Shirt. 
Gym Shorts      (No jean shorts)
Socks
Gym shoes (Basketball, Tennis, Track shoes only)
 
SWEATS will be permitted for medical or religious reasons only! 
Requires a note from Parent or Guardian!

GRADING

There are FOUR areas in which students will be graded.  This is easy to remember by the acronym U R P E: Total of 12 points per day.

3          U         Uniforms (P. E. Clothing)
3          R         Respectful (of teacher and classmate), Responsible (for your actions), Readiness (be on time and ready to learn)
3          P          Participation
3          E          Effort
 
The Citizenship grade will be based on the student’s behavior, classroom policies, and safety.  Unexcused absence will affect grading.

P.E. PORTFOLIO‘S
All students will have a portfolio in which s/he will keep and record personal accomplishments.  The learner-centered portfolio will include a variety of individual skills in which the student progresses at his/her own rate.  Weight training cards, running records, and fitness testing evaluations are just a few of the items that make up and will be graded in the portfolio.
 
 
**ANY EXCUSE FOR NON-PARTICIPATION IN PE, A NOTE MUST BE GIVEN TO THE TEACHER BEFORE CLASS STARTS, SIGNED BY A PARENT OR GUARDIAN.  MEDICAL CONCERNS OR LIMITATIONS NEED TO BE DISCUSSED WITH THE SCHOOL NURSE OR WELLNESS CENTER PERSONNEL.**
