Math Course Description
The 6th and 7th grade classes will be using the Connected Mathematics Project (CMP) series. The series helps the students to learn mathematical concepts and skills. Students will be evaluated based on their class work, homework, quizzes, unit tests, projects, group work and participations in class.
Students will learn, investigate and explore important concepts about whole numbers, fractions, decimals, percents and apply them in real life situations - while shopping, cooking, baking etc.
Students will learn about two-dimensional geometry. They will learn about polygons, the different kinds and their properties, angles, angle measures, and circles. They will also learn about area and perimeter and apply it in appropriate situations.
Math Standards:
1. Students will learn, understand and apply the concepts and procedures of Math.
2. Students will learn to solve problems and explain their work using various strategies.
3. Students will apply mathematical reasoning in class and everyday activities.
4. Students will understand and connect math to other subjects and apply it in real life situations.
Science Course Description
The science curriculum is divided into the following units:
* Truth about Science: Students learn about scientific processes, how to conduct a research and to write scientific reports.
* Diversity of Life: This unit is on Biology. Students will learn about the living things and their characteristics.
* Magnets and Motors: Student learn to work using magnets and motors.
* Family Life and Sexual Health (FLASH): The unit focuses on teaching students to communicate and communicate effectively about their self-image, self-concept, helps them set realistic goals, and other subjects. This unit also deals with discussions on sexuality associated with the FLASH theme. Parents and guardians have the choice of opting out of this program if they do not want their child to be a participant.

Grading Scale:
90-100% = A
80-89% = B
70-79% = C
60-69% = D
> 60% = F
The grading is based on quizzes, tests, projects, participation, attendance, lab work, group projects and presentations, class and homework assignments.
