Denny Middle School Library

 Mission Statement:

The mission of the Denny Library Media Program is to ensure that students …are effective users of ideas and evaluating useful information.  

Goals:

Help connect students, staff and parents to information resources, both print and online.

 Augment classroom curriculum through research skill instruction, literature, a nd world-wide links to all content areas.

 Build an essential and interactive collection to support curriculum and the larger school community.  

Help create a dynamic research and learning environment for students and staff.  

Students are taught Information Seeking Strategies using an overview of the Big 6

Research Skills so students will know how to PLAN their next research project using the Big 6 research process.  

Task Definition:

. Define the task

. Identify the information needed to do the task

Information Seeking Strategies:

. Brainstorm all possible sources

. Select the best sources

Location and Access:

. Locate sources

. Find information within sources

Use of Information:

. Engage (read, hear, view, or touch) to learn

. Take out needed information

Synthesis:

. Organize information from all sources

. Create product or performance

Evaluation:

. Judge the product or performance

. Judge the process (efficiency)
