Teacher Bio
This is my 4th year teaching and 3rd at Denny Middle School. Prior to teaching at Denny I taught at Meany & Washington Middle Schools. I also was an Instructional Assistant for the Seattle School District for 3 years. In 2002, I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Hampton University in Hampton, VA, while also taking education classes. In June 2005, I completed my Masters In Teaching degree at City University in Bellevue, WA. I also coach boys’ basketball at Franklin High School. When I am not at Denny, I love to spend time with my family, play sports, read, and work out. My professional goal is to learn more instructional math strategies and increase classroom learning.

Mathematics

5. The student understands how mathematical ideas connect within mathematics, to other subject areas, and real-world situations.

Math Course Description
The class will be using the Connected Mathematics Program 2(CMP2) series to help guide and advance their learning of mathematical concepts and skills. Students will be assessed on classroom work, homework assignments, quizzes, unit projects, and unit tests.
This course will cover Factors & Multiples; Understanding Fractions, Decimals & Percents; 2-Dimensional Geometry; Using Fraction Operations; 2-Dimensional Measurement; Computing With Decimals & Percents; Surface Area & Volume; Understanding Probability; and Statistics.

Grading Policy Mark/Grading Breakdown
A = 90% - 100% 50% = Tests/Quizzes/Projects
B = 80% - 89% 25% = Homework
C = 70% - 79% 20% = Participation (Includes warm-up)
D = 60% - 69% 5% = Attendance
N = 59% and below

Washington State Standards Taught in This Science Class
Science: The student will…
1. understand and use scientific inquiry and apply knowledge of science and technology to solve problems.
2. understand and use concepts and principles in earth, life, and physical science.
3. understand the nature of scientific inquiry, and how science and technology are interrelated.

Science Course Description
Truth About Science - This unit will be ongoing throughout the year. Students will learn about the scientific process, how to do research, and write various kinds of reports.

Solutions & Pollution- This unit focuses on solutions and mixtures, dilution and concentration, how to cleanse different solutions which have been polluted, as well as being a great introduction to the Scientific Process.

Diversity of Life - This unit focuses on biology. Students will look at issues regarding the characteristics of life and the complexities of living things.

Family Life and Sexual Health (FLASH) - This unit will run about two weeks in the second have of the school year. It goes beyond the discussions of sexuality usually associated with FLASH. We will talk about self-concept, self-image, goal-setting, communication, and many other subjects. When we do start the discussion on sexuality, a letter will be sent home to notify you. Parents have the option to not have their students participate in the course.
