SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Reading: What is a "just right” book?

Your child will be reading many books this year.   A "just right" book is a book that your child can read independently; books should be neither too difficult nor too easy in order for your child to grow as a reader.

The "five finger" rule is one way for your child to choose a "just right" book.

Once your child has chosen a book, ask him or her to read the first page aloud.   As your child reads, he/she should count on one hand any unknown words.   If there are five or more unknown words on a full page of text, this book is too difficult!   If your child knows all the word, it may be too easy.

When reading a "just right" book:
1 - reading should be fairly fluent (not too choppy sounding)
2 - your child should be able to tell you about what he/she has read
3 - your child should be interested in the topic

Interested in after school programs?   Out of School Time (O.S.T.) Programs are coming in October.   Session Info: Registration forms and OST class descriptions will not be available until September 21st and aside from the website, they can be located in the main office or in the OST office after that date.
-Fall session will start October 6th 2009 and run until December 11th 2009 (11 weeks)
-Winter session will begin January 11th 2010 and run until March 26th 2010 (10 weeks)
-Spring session will begin April 12th 2010 and run until June 11th 2010 (9 weeks)

SEATTLE PUBLIC SCHOOLS ANNOUNCEMENTS

New Student Assignment Plan : Seattle Public Schools is now developing attendance area boundary maps that will determine initial student assignments to schools.   Draft maps will be shared with the School Board on Tuesday, October 6 th.   The following list of community meetings will provide an opportunity for people to make comments and suggestions prior to the School Board vote on the final maps on Wednesday, Nov. 18.

Lectura : ¿ Qué quiere decir un “ libro a la medida “?  

Su hijo/hija va a leer muchos libros este año.   Un libro “a la medida” es un libro que su hijo/hija puede leer solo/sola. Los libros no deben de ser tan fáciles ni muy difíciles de leer; para que su hijo/hija avanze en la lectura.

La regala de los “5 dedos” es a manera en como su hijo/hija puede saber si es el libro apropiado para el/ ella.

Media vez escoge un libro, pídale quepor favor lea la primera página en voz alta. A medida que va leyendo, cuente con una mano todas las palabras que no conoce.    Si hay 5 o más palabras que no conoce en solo una página, entonces el libro es demasiado difícil. Si sabe y conoce todas las palabras el libro podría ser muy fácil.

Cuando se lee un “ libro a la medida”,entonces:
1 – la lectura debe de ser bastante fluida (sin titubear)
2 – su hijo/hija debe de saber decirle que es lo que leyó.
3 – a su hijo/hija debe de gustarle el tema que está leyendo.

¿ Interesados en actividades después de la escyela?   Los Programas después de la escuela comenzarán en Octubre. Los formularios para inscribirse estarán listos el 21 de Septiembre.

Pueden ver las sesiones en la página del internet de Denny o encontrar los formularios en la oficina principal.
La sesiónes del Otoño comenzará el 6 de Octubre y durarán hasta el 11 de Diciembre (11 semanas).
La sesiónes deInvierno comenzarán el 11 de Enero y terminarán el 26 de Marzo. (10 semanas).
-La session de Primavera comenzarán el 12 de Abril   del 2010 y terminarán el 11 de Junio (9 semanas).

ANUNCIOS DEL DISTRITO ESCOLAR DE SEATTLE

Nuevo Plan para Asignar Escuela a los Estudiantes :

  El Distrito Escolar de Seattle está desarrollando mapas que reflejarán las areas que ayudarán a determiner en que escuela sera asignado el alumno. Los primeros borradores de mapa serán presentados a la Junta Directiva de las Escuelas Públicas el día 6 de Octubre.  La siguiente lista de reunions darán oportunidad para que la comunidad pueda dar comentarios y hacer cambios antes que la Junta Directiva del Distrito Escolar de Seattle haga un voto final el 18 de Noviembre.
