School is a great adventure away from home for children. Our aim at Dearborn Park is to provide a basic foundation for your child's education in a safe, nurturing environment. We want to make your child's experience at school a successful and happy one.
The Dearborn Park academic program is designed to help stimulate a positive self-concept, providing each child with many experiences of achievement. Our students learn to work and create independently as well as cooperate with each other in small groups, in the larger classroom, and in the school as a whole. Our program provides many opportunities for social and emotional development, language development, and physical and mental growth.
As parents, you can help boost your child's academic growth and personal development at home. Consider the following ideas:
- Establish a regular pattern for homework, playtime, meals and sleep. Researchers recommend 10 hours of sleep a day for elementary school age children.
- Let your child share in responsibilities, conversations and activities at home.
- Encourage your child to read instead of watch T.V. or play video games.
- Read and discuss poems, picture books and story books to your child to stimulate a love of reading.
- Talk to your child as a friend as well as a parent.
- Show interest in the schoolwork your child brings home.
- Encourage your child to do homework independently whenever possible.
- Attend evening events at school with your child, especially if he or she is performing.
- Provide opportunities for your child to interact with other children and adults.
- Make sure your child attends school regularly and comes on time.
