I believe that we are all learners and that all children can learn. I believe that all children can be successful to the extent that they fulfill their potential. Besides obtaining knowledge and skills to become constructive members of society, I want children to develop self-confidence and the feeling that they as individuals are worthwhile, capable beings. I want children to have communication skills and abilities in getting along with others. I believe that children should be empowered to solve their own problems. Children need to learn respect for themselves and others, including acceptance of differences and responsibility for themselves.
Outside my room I have this saying which I think is very true:
"Children may forget what you say, but they will never forget how you make them feel."

Andrew Russell - arrussell@seattleschools.org
My name is Andy Russell and I love teaching fifth grade. I have been at Dearborn Park for several years and have always enjoyed working with the students and their families.
Families are always welcome in my classroom. Feel free to stop by any time if you have questions or are interested in what we are doing.
I like to involve the students in a wide variety of hands-on projects and activities. My goal is to inspire all the students to become life-long learners and critical thinkers. In my class, we do several cooking projects which I tie into their writing activities. I also focus on performance with the kids, including singing, poetry, and drama. My goal is for school to be an exciting and interesting place for kids.

Ms. Tamora Schoenberg- tnschoenberg@seattleschools.org
After graduating from high school in South Florida, I decided it was time
to see other countries to learn as much as I could through meeting people
and seeing lands and cultures different from my own. I worked odd jobs
as I travelled around the world, eventually deciding to settle for a while
in California to get a college education. From California State University,
Monterey Bay, I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Art, and used my education
to become a web designer. I worked in this field first in California, and
then in Seattle. After the tech bubble burst in Seattle, I began volunteering
at my daughter’s school. I loved working with elementary school children,
and I discovered that teaching was what I really wanted to do, so I went
to the University of Washington to get an M.A. in Teaching. After graduating
from the U.W., I began my teaching career as a Special Education Resource
Room teacher, and I now teach 5th grade at Dearborn Park Elementary.
As the Chinese proverb says, "Give a man a fish, and he'll eat for a day.
Teach a man to fish, and he'll eat for a lifetime." this concept inspires
my teaching.
