SUCCESS-ORIENTED PHYSICAL EDUCATIONMeet Ms. McGee : P.E./Fitness Specialist for grades K-5Physical Education AssessmentRubric Levels for Physical Fitness and EffortPhysical Education ExpectationsTop Ten Reasons to Participate in PE!My name is Kristin McGee, and I am excited to be teaching your children this year. I graduated from Seattle Pacific University, with a degree in P.E. and endorsements in English and Health. I started teaching at Concord in 1995, and I continue my professional development by attending workshops, conferences, and working with other colleagues in my district. I love fitness and I love kids, which gives me the best job in the whole world! Outside of school I enjoy spending time with my husband, as well as reading, running, and playing volleyball.
CONCORD Physical EducationASSESSMENTStudents in grades K-5 will be assessed in two areas: Physical Fitness and Skills Effort and Participation In Physical Fitness, there are four measurements that will be used to show whether or not students are meeting standards in grades 1-5: Half Mile/One Mile Run Sit and Reach Sit-ups/Curl-ups Push-ups Success is measured by individual improvement in a student's own fitness scores and physical/social skills. Students in grades 3-5 will also be using a PE Portfolio to keep track of their fitness scores, learn health and fitness concepts, and integrate other academic areas, as well as taking Unit Pre/Post tests. In addition, grade 5 will be given a Health/Fitness CBA (Classroom Based Assessment) in May. The Health/Fitness CBA is a statewide assessment in grades 5, 8 and High School. The following rubric has been established for Concord Elementary PE Program: RUBRIC LEVELS OF PHYSICAL FITNESS AND EFFORTLevel 4 Outstanding - EXCEEDS STANDARD: Shows outstanding effort and physical skills/fitness. Consistently goes beyond personal achievement. Goes the extra mile to care for and help others. LEVEL 3 Self-Directed MEETS STANDARD: A good listener who takes responsibility for their own actions and learning. Self-motivated and able to make good decisions. Makes positive progress and is able to work without direct supervision. LEVEL 2 Involved BELOW STANDARD OCCASIONALLY: Able to control own actions and stays involved in activities, but not able to consistently work without direct supervision. Needs to improve physical skills/fitness or needs to improve effort/participation on a regular basis. LEVEL 1 Minimal Effort BELOW STANDARD CONSISTENTLY: Interferes with other students' opportunity to learn, the safety of the class, and/or shows minimal effort toward one's own learning. Needs to improve physical skills/fitness or needs to improve effort and participation. Physical Education ExpectationsTo make PE successful learning environment for both the student and the teacher, I have several expectations: Safety is NUMBER 1! In the gym, learning occurs through instruction and MOVEMENT. My lesson plans are designed with the safety of each child in mind. I expect students to act and move responsibly, and to be dressed appropriately. Participation is expected. My lesson plans are designed to have ALL students engaged all the time. Success comes through a student's participation in doing skills, interacting with friends and teachers, and through active discussion of class-related topics. If a student cannot participate for a medical reason, I need a note from a doctor, school nurse, or parent/guardian. All students are expected to follow these simple rules while attending Physical Education class: Come prepared; wear safe shoes and appropriate clothing (* See Below) Come in quickly and quietly Follow instructions immediately Move and play safely Show respect for others and equipment *Examples of Safe/Appropriate Shoes and Clothing:~ Rubber soled athletic-type shoes ~ Shorts worn under skirts and dresses ~ Clothes that cover and fit modestly, as stated in the Concord Dress Code *Examples of Unsafe/Inappropriate Shoes and Clothing:~ Heeleys ~ Slippers, Sandals, or Flip-flops ~ High Heels and Clogs ~ Dress Shoes ~ Sagging Pants (need to wear a belt) ~ Clothing should meet Concord Dress Code In order to ensure a quality and safe learning environment in my PE classes, a set of guidelines and expectations have been developed for students to follow. Please help me reinforce these with your child so we can all have a great year together. Call me or write a note if your child has any medical conditions, allergies, or medications that are affected by physical activity. Thank you! The Top Ten Reasons toNever Miss P.E.! |
