Is $200 Million Worth Murder?

The Westing Game is a suspenseful murder mystery full of red herrings and weird plot twists. Millionaire Sam Westing has left $200 million to whomever (of his sixteen heirs) can figure out who murdered him. In a complicated mix of humor, suspense, and the possibility of a murderer lurking in the shadows, Ellen Raskin tells the odd tale of Sam W. Westing.

My favorite character in the book is Turtle (Is that even a real name for a girl?!) Wexler, because she is so funny, and she kicks people’s shins if they pull her braid. Turtle’s moods rise and fall just like the stock market she loves to follow.

Sam Westing was a master of chess and loved games. Westing loved the Fourth of July and was very patriotic. He even dressed up as “Uncle Sam” for parades and plays. May the best heir win the Westing Game.

I think The Westing Game is perfect for ages 8 to 100 (Okay, if you are 101 you’d enjoy it, too!). My mother thinks the Westing Game is one of the best children’s mysteries she’s ever read. I’d rate it *****!!!!!!!!!!
