The Coe Summer Institute

on Math and Technology

 

 

 

 

 

This summer, math club teachers John Brannan and Joe Bailey-Fogarty invite up to 20 students to join them for a fun and exciting exploration of math and technology. This program is appropriate for students entering 4th, 5th, or 6th grades.  

 

When: July 7 – 18, 2008,  9AM to 3PM daily.

Where: Coe School, Room 308

 

Week one – July 7 - 11 – Focus on Art

Students will explore and experiment with connections between math, technology, and art.  Technology lessons will focus on planning and creating one or more movies.  Students will also learn about internet fundamentals, computer art, and other non-computer technologies in art.

 

Week two – July 14 - 18 – Focus on Architecture

Students will learn about relationships between architecture and mathematics.  They will also explore computer architecture, such as operating systems, the structure of the internet, hardware, and web pages.  In week two, students will also learn how to create simple web pages.

 

 

Both weeks will have ample time for fun and games.  Students can sign up for one or both weeks. Math curriculum will be based on the Explorations in Math Art and Architecture unit.
