At Chief Sealth, there has been an increase of 50 freshmen this 2009-2010 school year. The increase of 9th graders adds to the crowded hallways as well to new faces you see around the school. There are as many reasons for coming to Sealth as there are 9th graders.

Sean Keller, a 9th grader who came to Sealth from Madison Middle school, explains that he chose Sealth for academic reasons: "I was impressed by the IB program at Sealth. I live closer to West Seattle high school but I thought it was worth coming here.”

Emma Pierce, a 9th grader at Sealth, had something similar to say: “The IB program really attracts kids.”

9th grader Jessica Stott who went to West Seattle Montessori also came to Sealth for academic reasons. “I really want to do the IB program and I know a lot of people going here,” she said.

There are also a few other responses that don’t really involve academics.

Rachel Robinson from Explorer West explained why she picked Sealth:“The teachers and the kids are better than the other high schools I looked at.”

For Michelle White, who was previously home schooled, it seems that distance from her home to school mattered:“Chief Sealth was the closest school.”

Jessica Stephens, from Madison, had a few reasons which included, “I love the band program.”
