Chief Sealth is a comprehensive high school located in the southwest section of West Seattle. Our student population of approximately one thousand is among the most diverse in the state. Students attending Chief Sealth have the opportunity to participate in various programs and career pathways where knowledge and technology is balanced in order to empower Sealth's students to become learners, leaders, and thinkers to be of value to themselves, to the community, and the well-being of the planet.

Academic Support

Homework Center

All Chief Sealth students have access to after-school tutoring four days a week in the library. The Tutoring Center is staffed by Chief Sealth teachers and is free for all students.
Schedule: Monday-Thursday, 2:15-4PM

DEAR

For twenty minutes every day, all students, staff and visitors at Chief Sealth are asked to "Drop Everything and Read." This time is called DEAR and has become an integral part of the Chief Sealth daily routine.

Library

The Library offers reference materials, a computer lab, curriculum support as well as the opportunity to borrow books for leisure reading.

Programs & Career Pathways

Students attending Chief Sealth have the opportunity to participate in number of programs and career pathways including:

IB, Honors, College and Advanced Placement

Chief Sealth offers IB courses as well as the IB full diploma, Honors, College in the High School and Advanced Placement courses in Math, Social Studies, English/Language Arts, and World Languages.

Focus on Technology

Chief Sealth has four state-of-the art computer labs and Internet access in every classroom. Course offerings include Networking and Computer Assisted Drafting as well as word processing, spread sheet, data base, and web design software applications.

Performing Arts Program

Beginning and honor courses are offered in choir, string orchestra, marching and concert band, drama, stagecraft, and musical theater. Chief Sealth is the only high school in Seattle to have a Mariachi Band class. For more information visit www.chiefsealthmusic.org.

Academy of Finance - Academy of Travel & Tourism

The career pathway programs offer a course of study that prepares students for careers beyond high school and opportunities for internships and employment while attending high school.

Proyecto Saber

This one-of-a-kind bilingual/bicultural tutoring program has existed at Chief Sealth for over 25 years. Students in the Proyecto Saber class receive help in all academic areas as well as involvement in social and service activities.

Running Start

Chief Sealth students can participate in Running Start which is a program sponsored by the Community College and the State of Washington that allows juniors and seniors to work, take college classes, earn high school credits while completing requirements for graduation from Seattle Public Schools.

College Preparation

Students receive extensive counseling and guidance in preparing for and choosing higher education options. The number of Chief Sealth graduates going on to two and four year college has increased over 14% in the past year. The number of students accepted to four-year universities has increased more than 100% this year alone.
