Mr. Simpson Room 103 |
We are 24 hard working, fun loving 2nd graders. We start off the day turning in homework. Cooperative learning is an emphasis in our class and we try to work together. We often chorally recite poetry for a few minutes with other members of our group. We are getting pretty good at it and sometimes visit other classes and recite poetry to them. In writing, we practice handwriting for a few minutes almost everyday. Next, we find and correct mistakes in sentences in our Daily Oral Language activity. After that we usually have a writing activity that many involve brainstorming ideas (bubble maps), writing rough drafts or writing final drafts. In math we use the Everyday Math curriculum and number grids, counting patterns, number stories, fact families, and weights. In reading, some of the stories we have studied so far include, Dragon Gets By by Dav Pilkey, Julius, by Angela Johnson, Mrs. Brown Went to Town, by Wong Herbert Lee, and Henry and Mudge and the Starry Night, by Cynthia Rylant. In science, we are studying, 'Liquids'. In social skills, we are learning how to recognize others feelings, and to guess how others feel.. In social studies, we are studying about belonging to many different groups. |
