Village Project
May 16, 2008
1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
B.F. Day School (directions)
Each classroom will create, construct and staff its own business or service, with the help of neighborhood businesses, parents and other volunteers. For the students, the expoloration begins in the classroom, where they brainstorm the ideas and questions they have about their particular business. Later they will visit a related business, take a tour, observe, make sketches and ask questions.
Working with artists, parents, and other key volunteers, their observations will be transformed into kid-sized shops, constructed from corrugated cardboard facades and fabric, with floor plans they design. They will offer the goods and services they choose. This Village will then be open to the surrounding community.

Contact the school about volunteering for the Village Project.
Village is a very fun activity. It's not just an activity. It reminds me of a big town. It's just like New York in rush hour! Pizza, Italian sodas, post office, bank deposits, pets, cookies, kites, books, disco party and everyone rushing around to get a little piece of everything. The lines, the noise! There is pandemonium. The thing is though it's really fun.
Now, how could you run a village without money? You can't! That's why we have BF Day bills! In the morning of the village, the teachers of each class take their class down to the bank. Each kid gets a certain amount of money. Then, they go back to their classroom and put the cash in their desk.
Then, a few hours later, everybody has village on their mind. 1 hour till. ½ hour till. 20 minutes. Tension.
Then everybody is let out of his or her shells of impatience and village starts!
"I can't wait till village!"
