Volunteer at Alki
We are fortunate to have such wonderful families and neighbors who support and enrich our school. This is what makes Alki such a powerful place for our children! Students, staff, families and the community working as a team increases student success. We are always looking for more members of our outstanding team. Here is a list of our Current Needs.
All volunteers with the Seattle Public Schools are required to submit a completed volunteer application form including a background check prior to working with students. You can download a copy of that form at http://www.seattleschools.org/area/vol/docs/volunteer_app.pdf.
Tutoring
One way Alki is set apart is through our fantastic math and reading tutoring programs. We are proud to use both Read Naturally and Sound Partners tutoring programs. As a tutor volunteer you will be trained in one or both programs and work with our tutoring coordinator to schedule days and times that work best for you. We have tutors who volunteer anywhere from a couple of hours a week to working with students daily. Alki welcomes all parents, families, friends and community members to give back to our extraordinary school.
Library Assistant
Share your love of books! We are always in need of volunteers to help in the library with checking books in or out, re-shelving books and materials, and the very exciting job of helping with our two popular books fairs each year.
Room Parent and Classroom Helpers
A terrific way to get involved with your school is by helping in the classroom. Teacher needs vary from class to class, but may include organizing the telephone directory, planning a grade-level social, helping with field trips, special projects, or planning class parties. Sign up for the fun!
Event and Activity Volunteers
Alki has many special events which take place throughout the school year. We are always looking for eager parents to help organize a new event or carry on a beloved tradition. If you are interested in helping with one of these special events, please contact either the activity person listed on our PTA Contact List or our Vice-President of Events.
Volunteer Interest Survey 2009-2010
We want to help you get involved at Alki in any way that works with your schedule and interests. Simply complete a Volunteer Interest Survey (one for each parent/guardian in your family), we’ll then be in touch with opportunities that fit your interests and skills as the needs arise. Feel free to contact the Volunteer Coordinator with questions.
