Welcome to Alki PTA

Alki Parent Teacher Association is a parent driven volunteer organization dedicated to the social and academic enrichment of all students and families at Alki Elementary School. The PTA works closely with the principal, staff, parents and wider community to provide financial and volunteer support for a wide variety of programs and activities around these main goals:

  • Promote family involvement and build a strong school community through educational programs and family involvement events.

  • Provide funding and volunteer support for academic enrichment activities.

We Hope You Can Join Us

Alki PTA encourages all parents, staff, and others who support our efforts to provide the best possible school experience for ALL Alki children to join and become involved at whatever level works for you and your family.

  • Look for a membership form in your child’s take home package at the beginning of the school year.

  • Forms are also available at the school office and on-line at the PTA website.

Send completed forms (with payment) back to school with your child or send it to our secure mail box at Alki Mail and Dispatch.

PTA General Meetings

PTA general meetings are an excellent way to get updated on school activities, learn about PTA programs, and provide input on school related issues. PTA general meetings are open to all Alki parents. Complementary childcare is provided at all meetings.

Getting involved with PTA

Alki PTA has committed to contributing up to $70,000 in support of academic enrichment & family involvement prorgrams for 2006-07. PTA’s ability to deliver the programs and activities we sponsor depends on the volunteer efforts and contributions of our parent community. There are many ways to be involved with PTA activities, both during and outside of school hours. Here are just a few:

  • Attend meetings and share your ideas and opinions

  • Organize or help with PTA activities and fundraising events

  • Grant writing and professional services

Volunteer opportunities are posted under "Announcements" on the school website : www.seattleschools.org/schools/alki/ and communicated using the school e-mail distribution lists and Alki Connections.

To get involved, you can contact the Committee Chairs directly (Contact names & phone numbers are on the PTA contact page) . If you'd like to be involved but not sure how, contact any PTA officer or the PTA Volunteer Coordinator.

Providing Financial Support for PTA Programs

Alki PTA’s fundraising goal for this year if $ 56, 000. We use a wide variety of fundraisers including:

  • Direct Contributions by way of:

  • Alki Education Fund direct giving form (forms are found in front of the office and at our website).

  • United Way contributions

  • Corporate Contributions and Matching Funds

  • Sally Foster Giftwrap (September)

  • Alki School Auction (November)

  • Hanging Basket Plant Sale (March)

  • Alki-A-Thon (May/June)

  • Scrip program

  • General Mills “Boxtops for Education” label program

PTA also benefits from donations of good and services such as catering, print & photocopy services, graphic design, landscaping & construction, etc. If you would like to donate, please contact the PTA president.

Alki PTA is a registered 501( c)3 tax-exempt non profit organization. Donations of goods, services and financial contributions made to Alki PTA are tax deductible as allowed by law.

Alki Traditions

Among the traditions hosted by the PTA are the 1st day reception , 5th grade breakfast, Back to School BBQ, Family Fun Nights, Kindergarten Social, Razzle Dazzle Day, Gallery Art Walk, and more. See our main Alki PTA 2005-06 Sponsored Activities and Programs page for more information.

PTA Board Meetings

The PTA Board of Directors meets monthly to plan the agenda for the membership meeting, receive updates from Committee Chairs, and conduct other PTA business as necessary. PTA Board members include the PTA President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, Teacher Representative, and certain Chair positions. Members who have a specific issue they would like to discuss with the Board or PTA membership should contact the PTA President to get on the meeting agenda.
