Naturalist Program
Alki School is lucky to have an old growth forest, sandy beach, and rocky beach within easy walking distance, plus a school courtyard garden. Our Naturalist Program encourages Alki students, teachers and families to take advantage of these diverse habitats for use as outdoor classrooms, to enrich existing curricula, and to explore and enjoy.
The Naturalist Program has provided enrichment materials and tools for field study, and trained parent volunteers to help with walking fieldtrips to different habitats. Alki also has a National Wildlife Federation certified habitat courtyard garden, and the Naturalist Program works maintaining and improving the habitat and coordinating with school staff to connect classroom lessons to garden activities.
