Artist-in-Residence Programs: Music, Dance, Drama and Visual Arts
Arts education has long been a high priority for Alki families. In addition to utilizing the District visual arts curriculum, our PTA sponsors an Artist-in-Residence program for Music, Drama, Dance, and coming soon, Visual Arts.
Music
Our music program includes a six-week session of vocal instruction and world drumming each fall and winter, customized to each grade level. This session culminates in an all-school winter evening performance. In addition, there is a performing lunchtime choral group for students interested in practicing seasonally during lunch recess.
Drama
Drama is taught during a six-week segment in the spring by a professional actress/instructor. Students are introduced and participate in all aspects of drama: voice, posture, movement and expression. This culminates with an all-school evening performance in June.
Dance
Dance is included year-round as an integral part of both our Physical Education and World Languages programs at Alki.
Visual Arts
In addition to the district-sponsored visual arts curriculum, Alki is also working on offering a Visual Artist in Residence program. This program will provide certified visual artist visits to each classroom for a half day each month, enhancing the art exploration students already have through their everyday curriculum.
