GYM & FITNESS NEWS
Sue Doty
Athletic Skills participants please have your music on a CD—turned in by Friday May 9—so we may compile the list.
Volunteers still needed for gym supervision during lunches and during the dress rehearsal, which will be the afternoon of the early release day, Wednesday, May 21. Thanks.
FOOD DRIVE
Rick Lemberg
This year, Room 17 and Room 11 have been helping out every month at the University District Food Bank. The last time we were there, the director mentioned that the food bank is struggling to meet increasing demand with decreasing supplies. The food bank has already spent over half its budget for the year, and the cost of food keeps rising.
In response to this, we are collecting nonperishable food between now and the end of the school year. We will put some boxes by the front door of the school to collect donations. If it is possible for your family, please send one or two nonperishable food items with your student to school once a week. This will help out greatly with the increasing need for food assistance around the city.
SPRING BOOKFAIR IS COMING
Ken Hammer and Janet Kimball
We need to fill about 60 volunteer spots.
Here’s what we’re doing:
WHAT: The Secret Garden children’s bookstore will provide the books and we receive a percentage of the proceeds for our library.
WHEN: The book fair will run from Monday, May 12, through Friday, May 16. It will be open before school, during recesses, and after school. It will also be open on New-Parent/Expedition Night, Thursday, May 15. New-Parent Night: 6–7 p.m.; Expedition Night: 7–9 p.m.
WHERE: In the library.
HOW YOU CAN HELP: Volunteer time slots are 45 minutes to 1 hour long, depending on the slot (see the schedule below). You can sign up by sending Janet Kimball (jgkimball@comcast.net) an e-mail telling when you’d like to help, or you can sign up on the schedule that is posted outside the school office.
WHAT YOU NEED TO DO: All you do is show up, staff the cash register, answer questions, help keep the books organized, and just generally keep an eye on things. There are two volunteers in each time slot, except for Expedition Night, when we need four for most time slots.
SIGN UP: Here are the times. Let us know what time/which day(s) you would like:
Monday–Friday:
8:30 to 9:30 a.m.
10:30 to 11:15 a.m.
12 to 1 p.m.
1:30 to 2:15 p.m.
3 to 4 p.m.
Thursday, May 15:
5:30 to 6:30 p.m. (two volunteers)
6:30 to 7:30 p.m. (four volunteers)
7:30 to 8:30 p.m. (four)
8:30 to 9 p.m. (four)
Thank you for supporting our library!
P.S. Wednesday of BookFair week (May 14) will be “Dress as Your Favorite Story Character Day,” so dress appropriately!
KIDS' TIME REGISTRATION
Jenny Evans
It is about time to think about registering for Kids’ Time. Fall registration packets are available for those who would like information on our program. Registration begins Monday, May 5, if you are already in the program or if you have an incoming kindergartener. Our wait-list registration begins shortly after, on May 13. If you are on the Kids’ Time wait-list, remember to reregister for the new wait-list. If you do not reregister during the week of May 13, you will lose your place on the wait-list. The cost of our before-school program is $170 per month, and our after-school program is $260 per month. If you have questions, please stop by the Kids’ Time room or call Ian or Kert at (206) 729-9538.
SCRIP AND JET CITY PIZZA CARDS
Rae Keyes
National Scrip orders are due tomorrow, Tuesday, May 6. Place orders with payment in the envelope located in each classroom or in the office. Orders will be available for pickup in about a week. Order forms are available on the Web site or at the scrip table.
Also, there were several Jet City Pizza punch cards that did not sell at the auction. They are currently available for purchase at the scrip table for $10. For $10, you get five buy-one-get-one-free coupons (pick-up only), and five buy-one-get-one-half-off coupons (delivery). According to a family who purchased a card at the auction, the pick-up coupons are well worth the $10 cost for the card.
