Bookstore in Seattle. Drop by to enjoy the fair and get a head start on
your holiday shopping - and be sure to mention Thornton Creek when you
make a purchase so that a whopping 25 percent of each purchase will go
to our library. If you plan to do your shopping online, you can still

Birthday Books
by Tara T.
Did you know you can donate a book to the library for your birthday?
You can buy that book at any bookstore.
To get your book purchase in the library, Ginny will need to put a barcode on it so it can be catalogued. It will be stamped with our library stamp, and then a spine label will be added. Inside the book, Ginny will put a book plate, a sticker that says “This is a Birthday Book” and also has the person’s name on it.
There have been about 10-15 donations so far this year.

Checkout FAQ
Q: How long are books checked out for?
A: Two weeks.
Q: Can books be renewed?
A: Yes. This can be done easily with the book in
hand or not.
Q: My child really wants to check out a book,
but it seems to be checked out continuously. What can we do?
A: Put it on hold! As long as your child does not
have any overdue books, he or she can put a book on hold so that
when it comes back in, the computer will alert us to set it aside
for him/her. See Ginny for help.
Q: We think we returned a school library book
to the public library.
What should we do?
A: Go back to the branch you returned it to and
see if they still have it. Periodically, all non-SPL books go downtown
to be sorted and returned to the school library. If they have already
sent it downtown, just wait and we'll get it back in a month or
so.
Q: Are there fines for late books?
A: No.
Q: Where are some places that kids have found
overdue books?
A: In the classroom, under the bed, behind the
dresser, under other books or stacks of paper at home, in the locker
at school, in the car, at the other parent's home, etc. When your
child brings an overdue list home, please help them look in all
the nooks and crannies!
Q: Are there fines for lost or damaged books?
A: We ask that families replace (with like binding-hardcover
for hardcover, paper for paper) OR pay to replace books that are
lost or damaged irreparably. Most of our books have a cost of purchase
associated with the record. Remember that the cost of the book includes
covering, processing, cataloging, etc.
Q: I am a parent and would like to be able to
check out books for myself. What should I do?
A: See Ginny. I can make your own library barcode
card for you. It's easy!
