Playing around the Playground

Are You Wondering where the Platform is?
By: Hans T.

Recently the platform (by the wood chip area) was removed. Why? John Miner (the principal) removed it becuase it was getting holes in it and he was afraid someone would hurt themself.

Pogo School Rules:
GOOD OR BAD ?

by Leo P.

A couple of years ago you could call your rules in pogo, but then the school made you use SCHOOL RULES. The reason they did this is that people were being unfair and would make all of the rules in favor of themselves and their friends. That is why the school made school rules.
Most students don’t like school rules, but they like the idea of having the same set of rules for everyone. Many kids would like to give their input for the rules.  Here is what kids think.
The first BAR GRAPH below is what kids said when I asked them if they like Pogo school rules.

The second graph below is what kids would like to do.

Fog Tackles Neighborhood
by Hans T.
fog on playground

This morning (Sept 26) in particular and a lot of other mornings you wake up and go to school to find that the playground is completely engulfed in fog. But this morning's fog was super thick. You couldn't see the building from the parking lot and if you stood on the blacktop, you could not see the field.

Fog is a cloud in contact with the ground. Fog differs from other clouds only in that fog touches the surface of the Earth. The same cloud that is not fog on lower ground may be fog where it contacts higher ground such as hilltops or mountain ridges. Fog is distinct from mist only in its density. Fog is defined as cloud which reduces visibility to less than 1 km, where as mist is that which reduces visibility to less than 2 km.
Fun Internet Fact: The foggiest place in the world is the Grand Banks off the island of Newfoundland, Canada.

For more information about FOG, go to this site http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fog#Characteristics

PENNY DROPS BANNED ON PLAYGROUND
A penny drop is when you are on the bars (by the concrete wall in the wood chip area) and you fall backward, but try to flip over onto your feet. "Children are not allowed to do them anymore, says our principal, John. "Kids might land on their heads if the gymnastic maneuver is not totally successful."

Don't strip bark from trees!
The protective wire was recently removed from the trees. They are still young and vulnerable. It isn't good for you to strip the bark off their trunks. This will harm them and they might die.

New wood chips delivered
You might  have seen an enormous dump truck, about as big as a room, that makes big dents in the wood chip areas. After they dump, somebody rakes out the chips. I collected three of the chips, one from each size of chipping: finely ground, medium size and regular. I asked my grandpa, Ben Bryant, who is a wood expert, to identify these chips. He said they were: (See picture below) wood chips

Who Popped the Tetherball?

Overnight on Sept 18, the tetherball left on the pole was found flattened with a big gash in it. Who did it? Sue Doty reports that we have had some vandals using the school grounds at night, leaving trash around, and she thinks this is related. From now on, tetherballs will be taken in at night. If you see anyone abusing equipment or school property, please report it to somebody, like our principal or PE teacher.
