FAQs
I have
never been to an auction. Can you tell me what to expect?
The AE2/Thornton Creek School auction is a fun, adult-only evening with good friends,
fine food and opportunities to bid on great donated items.
The silent auction takes place early in the evening. You
will have
a chance to view the items and write in your bids on bid
sheets. If you really want an item, stay close to it as
the table
closing time approaches. You'll want to make sure you're
the top bidder!
Silent auction tables will close at staggered times
in the early evening. Then you can enjoy a catered feast
and
find your seat for the live auction fun. Get ready to
raise your paddle for some big ticket items, including your own
child's classroom art project!
What kinds of items will be auctioned?
Get a sneak peek at our ever-growing online
catalog. You can
quickly get a sense of what we have in each category. If you
take a moment to sign in, you’ll have access to the
full catalog listing, the ability to create a wish list of
items you may want to bid on, and an easy way to e-mail catalog
descriptions to your friends. The FAQs at
the bottom of the page will walk you through the simple registration
process.
How do I donate an item?
As a registered user of the online
catalog (see above), you
can donate items and services directly through the web interface.
This is a fun and easy way to submit your listings — even
at the last minute. You can even upload a digital photo
of the item (if available). If your donation is a physical
item,
you will need to deliver it to the school auction or contact
the donations chair Anji
Jarvis to
make alternate arrangements.
If you prefer to fill out our traditional
donation form, you can download it here.
What’s the
deal with reserved seating? Do I have to fill a table? Does
this mean all seats are reserved?
We are offering the opportunity for those who desire to sit
together— particularly those who are inviting friends
and family members—to prearrange their seating by filling
a table with 8 guests.
Alternatively, you can request to be seated near other parents
from your classroom. Both of these options may allow you to
more easily coordinate your bids for popular live auction items
and inspire some friendly competition for class projects.
Can I bring my children?
The auction is an adults-only event. However, we have arranged
for childcare to be provided, for a fee, at another location
(details withheld from this Web site for security reasons).
Please see your invitation for all the details.
Do I have to spend a lot of
money?
The auction is the school's major fundraiser, so we hope
you come prepared to bid. You might spend some of your
family's dining dollars on restaurant gift certificates
and some
of
your vacation dollars on an auction adventure. The silent
auction offers a wide range of items with a similarly wide
price range. You are
sure
to
find something in the auction to fit your budget. However,
you
are not obligated
to bid on anything. Your ticket price covers the cost
of your meal and related expenses, and all funds we collect
on the
big night benefit our AE2/Thornton Creek School kids.
You are also encouraged to invite friends, family and colleagues
who have spending
power. Egging on interested bidders is highly encouraged!
I can't attend the auction, but I want to
bid on some items. What can I do?
The online catalog will be
available for your review. In addition, a printed version
of the catalog will be distributed in early
April to all guests who have registered to attend the event.
This should give everyone an opportunity to review the items
that will be available the night of the auction. If you are
unable to attend but see an item you want, please ask a friend
who is attending to bid on your behalf, within the parameters
you choose.
