How you can help

Gathering donations for the auction is a community-wide event. We need everyone to chip in — whether you can donate a great item yourself, ask a family member or employer for a contribution, or request a gift certificate or merchandise from a favorite business. We ask that each family secure a minimum of two donations.

TIP: When you go out for dinner, pay the bill and then ask if the management would be willing to donate a gift certificate for a similar meal to support your child's school.

Who can you target?

Getting auction items can be fun and really easy with the Dart Board Theory of Solicitation! Think of auction “asks” in relation to a dart board. Start with the bullseye (you) and work your way to the outside of the board (cold calls).

  1. You share your talents or resources with others. Host a dinner, offer something from your business, donate tickets to a sporting or cultural event, share your vacation condo, give lessons, make crafts, etc.. We have a talented group of parents and receive our most interesting items from you.
  2. Immediate Family: Same kinds of ideas as above, but from a larger pool of understanding and supportive individuals. Family members are delighted to be asked.
  3. Best Friends: A larger but very supportive group. Friends can be partners with you in a hosted event, gourmet dinner, tailgate party, theme party, etc. They also have business and professional contacts. These same friends might also enjoy attending the auction.
  4. Neighbors: Same ideas as the above individuals, except this will increase your sphere of contact.
  5. Merchants You Support: Restaurants, all types of food stores, boutiques, antique shops, jewelers, clothing stores, gift stores, health clubs, sporting goods, etc.
  6. Business Associates: An untold wealth of possibilities. Our main goal is to obtain auction items (goods and services), but if a business contact does not have one of these, we welcome a cash donation to help underwrite the auction.
  7. Cold Calls: By the time you “hit” this circle, you will be an expert at soliciting auction items, and even a cold call will be fun and possibly rewarding.

READY TO HELP?
FOLLOW THESE STEPS…

  1. Identify a potential donor.
  2. Contact the Donations Team leader to ensure that this business has not already been contacted.
  3. Gather a donation letter and donation form, and possibly the AE2 Fact Sheet, so your donor has enough information to make a decision.
  4. Make your pitch. Visit in person if possible, or call to make a personal appeal. Be ready to deliver, e-mail or send the letter and form.
  5. Complete the donation form and return it to the auction box in the school office.
  6. Give yourself a pat on the back for a job well done.
