Adams - A Great Choice

Adams Elementary is a school you can feel confident choosing for your child. Here are some reasons Adams is a great choice for kindergarten and beyond:

Solid Academics

We have a strong reading and writing program with many excellent resources. In 2001-2002 Adams began participation in the University of Washington’s “Kindergarten Outreach for Literacy” program, which provides training and resources for teachers, parents and librarians. Find out more on our academics page.

Diverse Student Body

Our bilingual program is both a draw in our neighborhood, as well as throughout Seattle. We celebrate our diversity through assemblies, after-school programs and an integrated curriculum. Our arts-rich program also gives us extra opportunities to reach out into our world through hands-on activities, drama and music. This all culminates in a School and Neighborhood Arts Celebration every Spring.

Adams is very proud of its school community and culture. We have strong leadership in our principal, Anne Johnson. She brings a great vision to our school and a can-do attitude.

Adams is also an incredible team of parents, staff and community. Our parents are very committed, and our staff is dedicated toward enabling every child to achieve their very best.

Low Student to Adult Ratio

With the participation of parent volunteers, university students from teacher certification programs and tutors, our adult to student ratio is significantly reduced.

Buddy Relationships

Kindergarteners buddy up with an older child from the 5th grade to work on special projects, including weekly reading and other classroom activities.

Numerous Opportunities for Parent Participation

Parents can choose to participate on a regular or occasional basis. Past activities have included parent read-aloud days, tea parties, gingerbread house decorating and fieldtrips.

Free Full Day Kindergarten

Adams is one of the few schools in the area that is able to offer a free full day kindergarten for every child enrolled in the program.

Community Involvement

Adams is a small and personal school, with a very strong parent involvement and active community participation. Our students experience a myriad of enrichment opportunities and daily support, including a John Stanford Grant supporting a one-on-one tutoring program, an Intergenerational Innovations Grant which brings many elders into our school and an enriching relationship with the Ballard Family Center, Washington Mutual Bank and the Ballard Manor. We offer several after-school activities such as Homework Club (with on-site reading and math tutors), Dance and Art Club, and After-School Sports, including the Tumbling, Jump Rope and Unicycle Clubs. Daycare and before and after school care is available at the on-site Kid's Company (781-8186), the adjacent Ballard Community Center (684-4093) and the Ballard Boys and Girls Club.
