African American Academy
"The Beacon on the Hill"

Uniforms

In 1992, African American Academy parents, and scholars adopted a uniform dress code, an idea which was proposed in the original plan for the Academy. Since that time, we have been working hard to ensure all our scholars are following this policy. Uniforms are an equalizer; research has shown that both attitudes and behavior improve significantly when uniforms are worn. Our ultimate goal is to develop "universal scholars" who can excel in any academic arena. We want to instill pride in our scholars: pride in themselves, their school, their community, and their race. One way we show our pride in the African American Academy is by having our scholars wear a uniform - our uniform shows the world the unity we share at the Academy. Not only do our uniforms look sharp, our scholars look even sharper when they wear them. In uniform, our scholars are dressed for success; dressing for success shows the world we know we are on the road to success.

REMEMBER! All scholars at the Academy are required to wear their uniforms Monday through Friday. Uniforms are described below by grade level, boys/girls.

Girls:
Hunter green sweater, Hunter green jumper/pants or the green plaid uniform (skirt, skort, or jumper)
White blouse or white turtleneck

AAA Logo T-shirt, Khaki pants/skirt/jumper or skort, Green tie (optional)

NOTE: Girls may wear green or gray uniform pants instead of the jumper or skirt; they also have the option of wearing green or gray walking shorts in warm weather.
