African American Academy
"The Beacon on the Hill"

Harambee

A "Harambee" is held every Monday morning, beginning at 9:05 a.m. This is a gathering of our village, and includes all staff and scholars, plus any parents/guardians and friends who would like to join in. Everyone is invited!

Each Monday, one of the classrooms will be responsible for the Harambee Assembly. This responsibility changes each week, so that all of our classrooms are involved. We encourage parents to come to any Harambee in which their scholar(s) participate - scholars truly enjoy having their parents, relatives, and other friends come out and witness their hard work and performances!

During the Harambee Assembly, we will be announcing the Scholars of the Week; the Scholar of the Month will be announced on the first Monday Harambee each month. The Scholar of the Month is selected by Academy staff from those who have previously been identified as Scholars of the Week. The teacher of any Scholar of the Week or Scholar of the Month will notify the Scholar's parent(s) of their selection so the parent can (hopefully) be able to come to the Harambee.
