African American Academy
"The Beacon on the Hill"

The African American Academy draws students from across the Seattle Public School District. An African-centered education recognizes the undisputed fact that humanity began in Africa, and acknowledges contributions of all peoples and cultures. The multi-age classroom model under which we operate is all-inclusive, and addresses the academic, social, and emotional needs of our scholars. Instruction at the Academy places an emphasis on the history, culture, and heritage of African and African American people, using an interdisciplinary model which reaches every classroom and grade level.
