Assignment and Waiting List Information

WAITING LIST NUMBERS BY SCHOOL

CHECK A STUDENT'S CURRENT SCHOOL ASSIGNMENT OR WAITING LIST STATUS

                   * WAITING LISTS DISSOLVE ON SEPTEMBER 30TH *

We know that it is very stressful for families with children on waiting lists not to have a definitive answer as to if, when, and whether their child will be offered a seat in their first choice school.

Schools have waiting lists when the number of students who request the school is greater than the number of available seats. All students on waiting lists have a school assignment (unless they have specifically notified us to drop the assignment but keep the student on the waiting list). Waiting lists are managed by the central office, allowing moves to be ongoing during the summer and through the end of September, at which time waiting lists are dissolved and there are no further waiting list moves for the current school year.

Our practice is always to make waiting list moves as quickly as possible, assuring that we:

• Act in accordance with the data (as new data and further analysis become available throughout the summer and start of school), and

• Make waiting list decisions thoughtfully and responsibly (trying to avoid creating new problems, such as over-enrolled classes).

We do not wait until after school has started to begin moving waiting lists. In fact, we start in the spring based on analysis of the Open Enrollment data in comparison with original projections. Waiting list decisions are NOT based only on the number of students assigned at a given moment, but on the anticipated October 1 enrollment.

Seat availability is constantly changing as some families tell us their student will not attend, students are offered a seat from another waiting list, or families move away or to a different part of the district and get reassigned to their new attendance area school.  A few years ago we began providing an on-line option for families to let us know if their child would not be attending, and/or whether we should remove them from a waiting list. This enables us to get information much earlier so that additional waiting list moves can occur.

Please note that waiting list information is updated in the system at the end of previous business day. Assignments from waiting lists are manually entered into the assignment system. Depending on exactly when the information gets entered, it may not be reflected here or on the automated phone line immediately.
