Top-performing schools earn Washington Achievement Awards for 2012

Congratulations to the top-performing schools at Seattle Public Schools for earning Washington Achievement Awards for 2012. 

The Seattle schools earned awards in the following categories:

OVERALL EXCELLENCE
Elementary Schools – Bryant, John Hay, John Stanford International, Loyal Heights, Maple, Montlake
Middle School – Mercer
High School – The Center School
Comprehensive School – Catharine Blaine K-8

LANGUAGE ARTS
Middle School – Mercer
High School – The Center School

MATH
Elementary School – West Woodland
Middle School – Mercer

SCIENCE
Elementary Schools – Beacon Hill International, Bryant, Daniel Bagley, John Hay, John Stanford International, Laurelhurst, Loyal Heights, Maple, McGilvra, Montlake, North Beach, Schmitz Park, Van Asselt, West Woodland
Middle School – Mercer
High Schools – Roosevelt, The Center School

The award-winning schools will be honored during an award ceremony on April 30 at Kentwood High School in Covington.

The Washington Achievement Awards now in their fourth year, are sponsored by the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction and the State Board of Education. Award winners are selected using the state’s Achievement Index and the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) Flexibility Waiver.

Seattle schools were part of a total of 381 schools around the state who received the awards.
