Garfield music teacher named 'Superhero for Washington Families'
ParentMap magazine has named Garfield High School music teacher Marcus “Tsut” Tsutakawa as one of their Superheroes for Washington Families – describing him as "an orchestra leader who inspires his students through beautiful music."
The magazine named Tsutakawa and nine other advocates and activists to their top 10 list – applauding their tireless efforts to make positive change in our communities.
Tsutakawa has been a Seattle Public Schools music teacher since 1979 – and has led the award-winning Garfield Orchestra since 1985.
For the past 14 years, he also has been the conductor of the Seattle Junior Symphony Orchestra. In 2005, he won the Mayor’s Arts Award at the Bumbershoot Music & Arts Festival in Seattle. He was awarded the University of Washington College of Arts and Sciences Distinguished Alumni Award in 2007. He has served three terms on the Seattle Symphony board of directors.
