A message from the Assistant Superintendent for Business and Finance
Dec. 13, 2012
Dear colleagues,
I am writing to remind you about upcoming staff furlough days. During the 2012-13 school year, most District employees are taking between one and four unpaid furlough days. By implementing furloughs, the District is able to save approximately $3 million a year, which will help offset significant budget shortfalls passed on by the state.
These furlough days were negotiated in summer 2011 for the 2011-12 and 2012-13 school years. Both the District and many of our bargaining partners agreed to furlough days as a way to prioritize classroom funding.
Upcoming furlough days are:
• Wednesday, Dec. 26: Most non-represented employees will take a furlough day. This includes most Central Office staff. This does not include 204-day and 223-day non-represented employees, or any represented staff, including teachers and principals.
• Thursday, Jan. 3: All PASS-represented employees
• Thursday, Feb. 14: All SEA-represented members and non-represented 204-day and 223-day employees will take a half day of furlough. This does not include most Central Office Employees. This will be an early dismissal day, which will affect our families and students. Please help us communicate this news on your website and in your newsletters. Students will be dismissed three hours early at all SPS schools.
• Friday, April 19: Non-represented management staff at Grade 34 and above will take a furlough day
• Friday, July 5: Non-represented management staff at Grade 34 and above will take a furlough day.
