Seattle School Board approves resolution supporting American Education Week
The Seattle School Board at its regular Wednesday board meeting approved a resolution supporting next week’s nationwide celebration of American Education Week, aimed at recognizing public schools and their accomplishments.
American Education Week was founded in 1919 by the National Education Association and American Legion following the realization that one-quarter of World War I draftees were illiterate. The goal was to recognize the important role that public schools play in ensuring that all students have access to a quality education.
Here is the list of the nationwide events for the week, which runs from Nov. 11-17.
• Monday, Nov. 12: Veterans Day (No School)
• Tuesday, Nov.13: Parents Day
• Wednesday, Nov.14: Education Support Professional Day
• Thursday, Nov. 15: Educator for a Day
• Friday, Nov. 16: Substitute Educators Day
