A video trailer produced over the summer by three Whitman Middle School students won first place in King County Library’s “Read. Film. Win.” contest.

Whitman book trailer finalistsStudents Jesse Romero, Adrianna Mitalas and Alyssa Korth won the “Best Book Trailer” award for their short video based on the book, “The Running Dream,” a winner of the 2012 Schneider Family Book Award.

The students received a first-place trophy and a $100 gift card from Best Buy at a red carpet ceremony August 18 at the King County Library in Issaquah. Three of the top five book trailers chosen as finalists were students from Whitman.

The book, by author Wendelin Van Draanen, is a story about Jessica, 16, who lives to run - but after a car accident, has to deal with the loss of a leg. She learns to run again with the help of a prosthetic leg and the support of her family, the community, and her math tutor, a student dealing with cerebral palsy.
