Aug. 15, 2012 | Audience: Families, Community, Staff | Contact: Communications, (206) 252-0200

Planned to coincide with Teacher Appreciation Month, in May, Ivar’s ninth annual Teacher of the Year contest had many nominations submitted by kindergartners through eighth-graders. Everyone had a favorite teacher, but only one could be “the best!”

After sifting through hundreds of nominations, William Levin of Hamilton International Middle School, nominated by sixth-grade student Henry Meyerson, was the winner. Henry Meyerson with William Levin and dancing clam

Levin was chosen because he was able to “motivate students to learn in a fun way, create unique projects outside of the curriculum and set up his classroom in a structured and interesting way.” Levin was also acknowledged for “taking time out of his schedule to assist students with projects and educating his classroom on global issues surrounding the environment and government.”

As the grand prize winner, Levin was awarded a giant $500 check for school supplies and a commemorative plaque. Meyerson and his classmates were presented with “clam certificates” good for a free cup of clam chowder and a visit from Ivar’s famous dancing clam!

Ivar’s also chose two first place winning teachers who each earned a $150 gift certificate for school supplies. Fifteen teachers were chosen as second place winners and were given $25 Ivar’s gift cards.
