BTA II and BTA III fund work at 31 schools this summer
When school lets out for summer, work ramps up for projects funded through the Buildings, Technology and Academics (BTA) capital levies.
BTA work is typically done while school is not in session to minimize disruption to learning and teaching. This year’s projects are funded by both the BTA II levy, which was passed in 2004, and the BTA III levy, which voters approved in 2009.
Capital levy funds are being supplemented by $13 million in energy grants from the Washington State Department of Commerce and the Office of Superintendent for Public Instruction.
Work is being done at:
* Adams, Bagley, B.F. Day, Bryant, Coe, Gatewood, Gatzert, Green Lake, Hawthorn, Hay, Leschi, McDonald, Montlake, Olympic Hills, Olympic View, Thurgood Marshall and View Ridge elementary schools;
* Jane Addams, Broadview-Thomson, Salmon Bay and Orca K-8 schools;
* Franklin, Rainier Beach, Roosevelt and West Seattle high schools, and at the
* Boren, Fairmount Park, John Marshall and Wilson Pacific buildings.

Boiler upgrades, such as this one, photo above, done at Lincoln last year, are a component of the 2012 BTA summer projects. They are partially funded by Washington taxpayers through an energy grant from the Superintendent of Public Instruction.
