Broadview-Thomson students hold 'Mock Congressional Hearing'
Some fifth-grade students at Broadview Thomson PK-8 school wrapped up their civics education studies from the "We the People" curriculum with a full scale "Mock Congressional Hearing."
They researched, then presented, differing points of view, revisiting the issue of dog-breed bans in Seattle.
Their presentations were impressive and were the culmination of all they had learned about the U.S. Constitution, including citizens' rights and freedoms.
Guest judges included:
• Lucy Gaskill-Gaddis, Education Chair for the League of Women Voters of Seattle - King County;
• Irene Haines - Adult Services Librarian - Broadview Branch;
• Seattle Public Libraries; and
• Bonivi Caculitan - a student-teacher intern at Broadview-Thomson, recent graduate of Seattle University with a Masters in Teaching, and newly appointed Edgar Martinez Fellow.
