A message from the Superintendent

June 15, 2012

Good morning,

Interim Superintendent Susan EnfieldAfter nearly three years in Seattle Public Schools, including 16 months as Interim Superintendent, my time with the District is drawing to a close.

I am grateful to all of you — students, staff and families and Seattle community members — for your support and commitment to our students’ success. It is through this support that we have maintained our focus on ensuring that every student in Seattle Public Schools is known, cared for and challenged as they work toward graduating from high school prepared for college, career and life.

My congratulations go out to all of our graduates this year, along with my thanks to the staff and family members who helped them along the way.

This summer also marks the beginning of a new chapter for Seattle Public Schools as we prepare for the arrival of our new Superintendent, José Banda, who will be taking the helm of the District in just a few weeks.

I know that you join me in extending a warm welcome to Mr. Banda — a welcome that will be followed by strong, ongoing support for his leadership and the success of all Seattle students.

While we have made strong gains over the past few years, there is considerable work left to do and it will require the District and the community coming together to ensure that it not only gets done, but that it is sustained over time.

Until Mr. Banda officially starts on July 2, Bob Boesche, Interim Deputy Superintendent, will oversee the day-to-day operations of the District. I want to thank Bob for stepping into this role.

During my time as Interim Superintendent, I have met many of our students, staff and families and had numerous opportunities to watch our school communities in action – and that has been a great joy. I look forward to watching the progress of Seattle’s students and staff, and celebrating the many successes that I am confident lie ahead.

Seattle is a great city, deserving of a great school system. I feel truly fortunate to have been a part of this team and this community and it has been an honor to serve as your Superintendent.

Sincerely,

Susan Enfield's Signature
