Seattle World School animated film chosen as finalist in Adobe Youth Voices program

May 21, 2012 | Audience: Families, Community, Staff | Contact: Communications, (206) 252-0200

An animated film by students at Seattle World School (formerly the Secondary Bilingual Orientation Center) was chosen as a finalist and included in the top 13 for multimedia production in the Adobe Youth Voices program

The Seattle World SchoolAdobe Youth Voices is a philanthropic effort of the Adobe Foundation intended to empower youth and educators through media making experiences that promote social change. As a part of this effort, the Adobe Youth Voices Aspire Awards celebrates the extraordinary work of young media artists from around the world by recognizing top talent in media production.

Schools from 32 countries submitted short films. The Seattle World School film, "A History of Language," tells how written language developed in different cultures over time. The film was shown at the Seattle International Film Festival May 17.

Ninth-graders from the World School worked with their multimedia, English, and history teachers to research, develop, and create this example of project-based learning.

English language learners developed their own new language skills, increased their content knowledge, and mastered technology skills during the process.

The model project showed what the students are capable of doing and what the teachers are teaching them. You can see all the finalists at www.youthvoices.adobe.com.

To see the film, go to the Aspire Awards page and click on “Animation” – you’ll find "A History of Language," as well as "Struggle," by Keristian Farrah," also from the World School.
