John Stanford International student wins second place in national writing competition
Emma Snavely, a fifth-grader at John Stanford International School, won a local contest, then took second place in a national creative writing competition sponsored by the American Immigration Council.
The contest asks fifth-grade students to submit a creative writing entry in the theme of “Why I Am Glad America is a Nation of Immigrants.” The contest asks writers to discuss their personal immigration experiences, learn about and share family histories, or write about the broader questions of the challenges facing immigrants in a new land.
The contest is run nationwide, with the top entry from each state submitted to the council. The local competition was coordinated by the Washington Chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers Association, and involved 84 entries from four local schools.
