Olympic View Elementary student's film screened at video youth festival
Olympic View Elementary student Zhenna Watkins’ film, “A Mermaid Story” was screened at the National Film Festival for Talented Youth (NFFTY), the largest and most influential youth film festival in the world.
At age 8, she was by far the youngest filmmaker to have a film selected for the festival this year. There were more than 700 submissions of youth filmmakers (age 22 and under) from 40 states and 20 countries.
Zhenna’s film features live-action paper puppets and an underwater story about a mermaid and her friends searching for some lost laundry and discovering a new friend.
The piano and ukulele music in the score is also played by Zhenna. Her film screened April 28 at the SIFF Uptown Theater in Queen Anne. Zhenna also attended the Opening Night Gala where she walked the red carpet.
Zhenna is in Ms. Barbara Rokicki’s second grade class at Olympic View Elementary.
