A message from the Superintendent
May 7, 2012
Good afternoon,
As we enter Teacher Appreciation Week, I would like to personally thank each and every teacher in Seattle Public Schools for all you do for our students.
Every school day, you engage students in learning experiences that will serve them for the rest of their lives. As a former classroom teacher, I know it isn’t easy. In fact, it can be incredibly challenging. But even then, the rewards of your efforts are visible each day. Whenever I visit classrooms, I ask students, “Who can tell me something you love about your school?” While “recess” tends to be a popular answer, inevitably, at every school students say, “My teacher!”
Not only do I want to thank all of our teachers, but I ask us all to take a moment this week to remember that special teacher who made a meaningful difference in our own lives. I hope we can take the time to reach out and say, “thank you.”
To all of our teachers in Seattle Public Schools, thank you so much for ensuring that every student is known, cared for and challenged. We are so fortunate to have you at Seattle Public Schools, and I am proud to work alongside you.
Gov. Christine Gregoire's Teacher Appreciation proclamation
Sincerely,

Susan
