Ballard, Roosevelt jazz hands appearing in Essentially Ellington competition this weekend
Jazz bands from Ballard and Roosevelt high schools has been selected as finalists and will be competing in the Essentially Ellington Jazz Festival in New York City this weekend. This is the first time Ballard has been selected as a finalist. Roosevelt has won the competition three times.
The finalists were chosen from 111 applicants who sent in recordings.
Roosevelt will perform 12:40-1 p.m. Saturday; and Ballard will take the stage 10:30-10:50 a.m. Sunday. The top three placing bands will be announced Sunday at 1 p.m.
Essentially Ellington is sponsored by the nonprofit organization Jazz at Lincoln Centers.
