Adams teamalki teamTeams from Adams and Alki elementary schools will compete in the Global Reading Challenge Video Conference Final April 13 where they will challenge two teams from British Columbia for the championship.

Adams' "The Lightning Round Readers," left, and Alki's "George's Magicians Treasure," right, advanced to the Video Conference Final after winning last month at the Global Reading Challenge City Final held at Seattle Public Library’s Central Library.

The Global Reading Challenge is a Battle of the Books program for fourth- and fifth-graders enrolled in Seattle Public Schools. Seattle Public Library children’s librarians select 10 books which students read. Then, they participate in a "Quiz Bowl" game to determine the winners. The program encourages children to have fun and enjoy the sport of reading.

The Adams and Alki teams will challenge schools from Fraser Valley and Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada.

Other schools that advanced in the March 27 City Finals were:
• Da Peeps - Arbor Heights
• The Title Waves - Graham Hill
• The Jokers - Greenwood
• The Magic - Loyal Heights
• The Victory Stealers - Northgate
• The Stoehr Super Stars - Roxhill
• The Van Asselt Bobcat Champions - Van Asselt
• The Neon Ninjas - View Ridge

Congratulations to Alki, Graham Hill, Greenwood, Loyal Heights and Northgate for advancing to the City final for the first time ever.

The Global Reading Challenge is sponsored by Target, The Seattle Public Library Foundation, Suzanne Hittman, Northwest Literacy Foundation, and the Ballard Rotary
