Hawthorne Elementary to hold two events in March:
family center grand opening, community day of service
Exciting things are happening at Hawthorne Elementary this March. The school is organizing two events to engage and connect families:
• 8:15-10:15 a.m., March 19 - Family Center grand opening (Room 9); and
• 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., March 21 - Community Day of Service to complete the installation of a new playground.
The events help build community within the school and the wider neighborhood.
Family Center grand opening March 19
The grand opening of the Family Center will be a fun and informative gathering to introduce parents and families to a comfortable, dedicated space that they can all use to take a break, get to know each other, use a computer or access information about the school, upcoming events, job opportunities, support services, adult learning and more.
Coffee and snacks will be served and Spanish translation services will be also provided. Special guests will include representatives from The Parents Union - a nonprofit organization dedicated to uniting and empowering parents and concerned citizens across the state to make sure every child receives a world-class education.
Community Day of Service March 21
The National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP) is having its annual conference in Seattle this spring. As part of their pre-conference events, principals will participate in a day of giving back to the local community. This year, NAESP has chosen Hawthorne to receive a new playground.
On March 21, principals from all over the country are coming to do a Day of Service (co-sponsored by NAESP and Landscape Structures, Inc.), to install the $30,000 play structure - donated by Landscape Structures Playground Company.
Hawthorne's new play area will not only benefit its students, but can also be used and enjoyed by all families in the neighborhood.
Celebration of playground completion March 24
Additionally, Hawthorne will also host a Community Day of Service 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, March 24 to celebrate and complete the playground installation. Hawthorne invites friends, neighbors, local businesses and community members to join school staff and parents to finish final project tasks so the new playground can be opened as soon as possible. Free coffee and snacks will be served.
