Human Rights Day is celebrated Dec. 10, a declaration adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1948. The declaration consists of a preamble and 30 articles, setting out a broad range of fundamental human rights and freedoms to which all men and women, everywhere in the world, are entitled, without any distinction.
More than 125 young people created and posted Human Rights Day banners for the contest. Classes from Chief Sealth International, West Seattle and Ballard high schools participated in the contest. Other SPS students entered the contest, as well.
PugetSoundoff.org is a youth civic engagement project that provides digital literacy skills training, as well as serving as an online hub for youth expression in the Seattle and Puget Sound area. The project is managed by the MetroCenter YMCA with funding provided in part by the City of Seattle Department of Information Technology using cable franchise funds.
